Trying to complete the poppies that will accompany the skull on the wall. Seems like an overwhelming task at this point, but I do know that big things are accomplished with little steps. One little contribution at a time can build up to be something dramatic. Glad to have been referred to a new long audio book -- 21 hours long -- that will hopefully keep me engaged and focused. One bead at a time, one square inch at a time. To see the whole piece together is the goal. I already have ideas for the next five pieces I want to make, too! Inspiration is amazing. Wondering where these ideas come from, sometimes.
There is also an exhibit I'd like to see at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem that closes next weekend. Called "Branching Out: Trees As Art," it represents artists who work with trees as a medium. As am recently starting to explore ways of adding mixed media to the fiber pieces I make, I want to pop up to see this today, as well. Seeing art is a great way to celebrate Labor Day. Taking a break from the routine and celebrating work that matters! I want the poppies to be mounted to something bone-like and hang beneath the skull like an arrangement of sorts. Maybe wood is the answer. A gorgeous piece of painted and varnished maple branch could be just the right answer. Or not. This piece has been a challenge from the beginning!
Challenges teach us, though, and without them, life is too boring. What will you make today?
