When viewing the study day itself, I am more intrigued by the question "Do you consider yourself to be artistic?" the results were 32% yes, 59% no, 9% not sure. Art teachers have a lot of work to do, America...!
Another interesting point is that while 51% think art is important for a "well rounded life," 50% would not pay a lousy $5 a year in taxes to help support arts agencies and programs for artists. Huh? Maybe this inconsistency represents a lack of understanding of how art is made and delivered to the public. Or not. Again.
I do not really understand the questions about personal appearance and home appearance. I get that the questions are trying to gain insights about a person's non-artistic aesthetic perceptions and abilities, but there is a big difference between looking good and creating art. I am walking proof! Hee hee.
Sigh. I do find this interesting enough to share with my students and see if we could create a local facsimile to assess what Reading thinks about visual art. It could offer insights into curriculum choices and directions that the program could head towards.
What will you make today? Be in the mighty 32%!
