The heat just kicked on. It is too late in the year for the heat to kick on. Just saying.
I often post "TMI" details of having RA here, and as I come across good articles I like to post them to save them here for later reference, too. Last night a whopper came across the Psychology Today page entitled: 7 Ways Childhood Adversity Can Change Your Brain. The article highlights numerous studies about how being exposed to chronic stressors as a child can be a huge contributing factor to autoimmune disease through changes to the brain. I've read about this before, but never with so much detail, especially imnvolving brain science. Without getting TMI again, there was an extended period of my own childhood that was an unpredictable, stress-filled mess due to alcoholism. I also think about the studies that show that grandparents genetic stress markers can be passed down through the DNA, and voila, the perfect storm inside this body. Yes, neurogenesis can happen, slowly re-pruning the brain to contribute positively in an anti-autoimmune disease way. I can breathe, meditate, keep moving, and re-pattern my brain to induce changes. I choose art over meditation as that just doesn't work for me. But seriously I think the cow is out of the barn on this one and the body systems are locked in overdrive. One can try...but here's another check in the "do art" column rather than "the wash the floors again as Toby will immediately make a mess" one. Cheers.
