The skull piece is coming along with the outer edge almost hemmed. Next, the interior negative spaces need hollowing out and then the big challenge of the background. Am thinking something drawn, painted, and digital, but will have to see what feels right. I know it can't be too "neat" and precise in the face of all the encrusted detail. I want some stringy things in there, too -- more beads! Frayed fabric strips, etc. The pieces of life, knotted and intertwined in their naturally messy ways.
Today is Mother's Day, and it was a quiet one. The feeling that everyone is off being with family as daughters or mothers, gives the day a more sedate feel than normal to my solo self. Of course I know that the "everyone" part isn't true -- the opposite probably is more realistic. Still, the sense of missing something (and someone) and the inevitable "Oh crap it is Sunday night and I haven't gotten it all done" state of mind returns as another crazy week looms. Cheers to whatever creative work you have been able to do this weekend!
