Yesterday his articulate post detailed his own experience with chronic pain and suppressed anxiety being a major contributor. He cited the work of Dr. Paul Gilbert, founder of CFT (Compassion Focused Therapy) and included the graphic I've put on this page. Anxiety isn't something that can be "overcome" - it is part of the human condition and needs to be acknowledged and handled, and having the compassionate will to alleviate suffering, in self and others, is the way to go as opposed to just "thinking oneself through it"(as in CBT.) Pure logic doesn't work. As I see more and more kids come through my doors with increasingly large burdens of anxiety, I thing anything we can learn about handling it is beneficial. Our world is in such a crazy state of flux these days on so many levels, anxiety is part of it, for adults, too. So, as I lay awake at 4 a.m. after some very decent sleep, I downloaded Gilbert's book and began to read. Interesting stuff!
Since I fell back to sleep at 4:45 and woke up late, the sun is now streaming through my windows (Which desperately need a good cleaning) and Hapi is yelling for toast. Talk about high anxiety! Gotta run!
