I am particularly interested in developing Pinterest pages on sketchbooks as there is so much out there. The pages I find most compelling have a high component of skilled drawing and textural craft made with rich media surfaces. This takes a lot of time to create. I was listening to an interview with Francis Dunnery yesterday whose thinking is as highly philosophical as is his music is entertaining. He was making the point that he isn't a guitarist, he just plays guitar. He isn't a singer/songwriter/astrologer/musician -- he just does those things. We get caught up in labels trying to understand ourselves. I do consider myself a textile artist, but I also do many other things. What happens if I really step back and see which media best suits the parts of the idea I am creating? The current piece I am making (yes! I am making!) has a new design idea in it that might require an abrupt shift in media. Hmmmm....might be time to lose the labels and just make stuff.
Off for a busy day, fighting the prednisone energy drop and a carrying a slight reaction to Monday's Rituxan. I feel sunburnt without having gone to the beach. I guess I'm owed an extra beach day this summer, then!
These images are from a student guide to "A Level Textiles" in a UK art program. Yummy.
