I like making these because they are funny, self-determined little buggers ans let me experiment with techniques. I want to paint them, too, eventually. Maybe paint fabric first. I am experimenting with text based fabrics now so feel sure that these figures will be carrying literal stories soon.
It feels good to sit down to work and get lost in the rhythm of stitching something...anything!! I can see a link between times when I do not have a hand stitching project going and a dip in my mood or an increase in my anxiety levels. I guess I am not alone -- and science has again stepped up to tell the world what textile artists already know. Read the article posted on the Embroidery Guild Facebook page here. Woot! Wouldn't it be great for doctors to prescribe a couple of hours of stitching every day to reduce blood pressure and systemic inflammation? THAT is a prescription I'd be happy to take!
What will you make today?
