Voting day today. Can not believe the lack of candidates there are to choose from this year. An ugly lot of Republicans, and a pathetic lot in the Dems. No independents to even consider. Ugly, ugly, ugly. The thought of Trump meeting with the Prince of Saudi Arabia is enough to make me shake with fear. What voting strategy does the American populace need to take to keep us safe? Vote against the Donald, just to keep him out? Vote for Sanders on principle? Vote for (and I can barely get these words out) Clinton, as Sanders hasn't much hope anyway? I think I will go with Sanders, at least this time, and then see what happens next. I can't imagine the Republicans will have a man standing after this primary. Egads what a mess. Glad at least to be an Independent voter and have some choice in the game.
Spent my prednisone brain power cruising Pinterest last night until my thumbs could do no more. So many amazing things out there to see. One portrait artist stood out to me this morning -- Juliette Sarloutte. She embroiders with the ferocity of an expressionist paintbrush, using large, rough stitches and conflicting colors to show realistic, garish light. Her portraits are well crafted yet loose because of the thread filled surfaces, which becomes a bramble when viewed in isolation. Interesting subject matter and perspectives, too. I also spent time perusing sketchbook pages, and can not believe the amazing quality of the work coming out of UK degree programs. Textile sketchbooks filled with energy, excellent draughtsmanship, and a variety of mixed media approaches that I know I was never exposed to as an undergrad. Maybe I need a new undergrad degree from a UK art school (go prednisone ambition!) Sadly, it all comes down to time and energy, both of which are highly variable in my world.
Art, art, and more art. It is a reason for being. Go vote, despite the fact that it might not matter very much anyway.
