I'd like to share an app that I put on my Wonder Phone a while back and really enjoy. It is called Daily Art and is informative and fun! Every day the app presents a new work of art along with a brief written summary of the piece. There is a pro edition for Apple users (ok, a couple of Apple apps I like aren't available for Android, but overall it IS a wonder phone!) but the basic one delivers a work of art a day that is easy to look at and appreciate. Work is selected from the public domain and includes all sorts of types of art from a variety of time periods. I'd love my students to get this app! It is a quick and easy way to gain knowledge about art history. Several of the artists featured are ones I'd not heard of, making it more fun. While I love Van Gogh, O'Keefe, Kahlo, and the other Art Teacher Favorites, I like to be surprised by art and to see lesser known expressions. And think "Someone MADE this. Because they felt the need to create something. I wonder why?"
On that note, after doing a minimum amount of cleaning today to make my house appear somewhat liveable, I hope to indulge in a little drawing and/or art making time to assist in my mental escape from this freaking painful body. Seriously a challenge. I'm not sure anyone that hasn't lived with chronic, widespread pain can truly understand the implications of it on all aspects of life. I know before I got sick I couldn't. I'm just so grateful that my messy house is full of materials and tools that let me play a little bit, move my attention elsewhere (stitch by stitch, or drawn line by line) and cope with today without going to bed and passing time like a corpse in bed. The end!
What will you make today?
