Thinking about purging clothes. Like, a lot of them. I tend to wear the same stuff all the time, yet my closets are almost full. It is hard to toss clothes that no longer fit -- what if I need them again? Why should I go buy new ones? Due to meds my weight can fluctuate. I know, though, there are things that I no longer need to have out on the spare room clothes rack. I have a large double rail clothing rack in my spare room that is full to the max. Makes getting dressed easier, but takes up most of the room. Time to utilize my spare room upstairs for most of the stuff I wear infrequently. Like most people, I have a few key items that were favorites and I just can't let go. The Marc Almond jacket I made in college. The Body Map shirt from London that I found at TJ Maxx years ago (ummm...was that really high school?) and still rocks. I don't wear either, but man, I love them. All those professional duds I used to wear to try to look like a Real Teacher before I realized I was one, and could wear more practical jeans. I was struck this week by the fact that I had a wake to attend and despite having a room stuffed with clothes, I couldn't pull together a decent outfit for a hot evening. Not to mention all of the "work clothes" I've got kicking around -- the shirts, shorts, and pants that are not in good enough condition or fit to be "real" clothes, but I could use when painting or doing yardwork. How many of those do we need?
I got a single rail, small clothing rack at Target yesterday and hope to get my act together today so that the next seven work days (7!) are a bcheers.reeze. I think Hefty bags will be involved.
As for art, my imagination is dancing with a series of new ideas involving pottery, National Geographic photos, slide images, and even some Eskimo mythology. I am formulating a new series of work in my head and need everything on the domestic front to be in place so that I can get to it. Although the thought of being caught up on it all feels like a myth, too. Life goes on...
