Guest blogger today, HAPI the Grey Parrot. I think Hapi is thirsty. He greeted me with "Hapi, would you like fresh water?" and now is barking like Tilly and then saying "Till, quiet." He is also singing, coughing, chirping, yelling at Toby, making the phone ring, telling Toby to go outside, letting loose a deep breath of frustration (obviously mine), barking like Toby, making kissy noises, talking like a friend that visits very irregularly, saying "How is everybody?" "Tilly, where are you?" "Hi Baby!" "What are you doing?" Whistling the theme to Close Encounters of the Third Kind, "Hi Sheama!" making the sound of my pills falling into the dish, making fun of Tilly by saying "Till-llly," making the noise of masking tape being pulled off the roll, "Fresh wash?""Did you like it?" "Want a bath? Dirty!" "I'm going to bed." "Whew!" "I'm going to take a nap." "Hi!" "Breakfast? Breakfast?" "C'mon." "Want scritch?" "Wow!" "Good job!" "Raiders of the Lost Ark" theme. "Sheama-Theo, Good morning!" "Doot- doo-do-dooo." Laughter. "What did you do?" Chicken noise. "How are you doing?" "I love you so much." "Boogie boogie boogie" Whistles Roddy Frame's "40 Days of Rain." Makes up his own whistle. "listen." Science fiction laser sound. "If you are happy and you know it click your beak!" "Did you like that?" "How's my birdie?" "Bobo?" "Ok, I gotta go shopping, ok?" Gigantic sniff and cough. "Want to go out? Toby come!" "NO! No! NOOOOO!" "Good morning!" "What's this?" Human stretching sound. Chirp. "Wa-Wa-Wa" "Hi!" Mmmmmmmm" Ellie da pug bark. "Ok!!!" disolving into laughing. "Go out! Go out!" Phone ringing. "How is everybody? "One, two, five!"
Then, silence. one more "Are you ok?" and his monologue is done. The spirit has spoken!
This has been a direct transcript of his vocalizations today as I sat here thinking of what to write. He made more noises than this, but I could only type so fast. He makes for an interesting post, I think, and will have to pop on here again when the stars align for him to be delivering his speech when my brain can't deliver. Which is a bit of the case this morning! And yesterday. Brain fog / pain fog, I guess. Yesterday I spent ninety minutes looking for my keys. NINETY MINUTES. I looked everywhere. In every room. Looked in the fridge. The cabinets. The laundry. The trash. Under furniture. In bird cages. In bedding. Everywhere. Was frustrated to the point of almost tears as this is not the first time it has happened. I keep my keys on a brass clip attached to my belt hoop like a wayward school custodian for that very reason. I only have one key to my car, and losing it would be horrendous.
After the long and frustrating search, I found them on my sewing machine table, behind the machine in a piece of copper lame. They had slid down the shiny fabric and got wrapped up in it. I'd looked around the fabric a dozen times. Although I am far from a domestic goddess, I usually do know where things are, and have learned that living with clutter is just the way I am. I call it being a "visual organizer." Although on Thursday I lost a book Turkish embroidery that came in the mail on Wednesday (no, AnnMarie, still haven't found it!) so I guess more work needs doing in the organizational department. Scary when the brain malfunctions like this!
Today is a day filled with cleaning up, teaching a class, and getting ready to hit Providence, RI for a concert by the one and only Amanda Palmer! Seriously, I think she is a creative genius. She is gifted with the ability to translate the human experience into music, and no matter what she plays tonight, it is bound to be a fantastic time. Yay!
"Hapi wants toast." Gotta fly! What will you make today?
