Today I am posting about a non-embroidering embroiderer whose work resonates with current directions in my own head. Louise Saxton collects and collages vintage embroidered textiles and assembles them into irregularly shaped images on walls. The pieces are not always sewn in place, but are pinned to the wall. Perhaps the pieces are just temporary images. Her pieces of parrots and exotic birds are gorgeous combinations of textures, colors, and stitch. Extremely detailed, the pieces of reclaimed fabric imitate the ruffle of avian feathers really well. I love the irregular shapes of the pieces and how they take on an "object" like feel as opposed to a rectangular image. Interesting that the pins seem to me like those used by a butterfly collector -- preserving rare species in art form. Cool!
Off to try to be more productive than the school cancelling storm that hasn't arrived yet. The roads are still bare, and the skies are clear!
