Have been dreaming about Indian embroidery recently. Must be the influence of the book I recently finished about the Punjab. That, and the fact that I completed wrapping my entire cotton thread collection around clothespins for perfect storage, and I am getting hungry to use them again. So, I started investigating online and came across a few good sites about it. This site lists the basic stitches used in the intricate embroidery pieces, but doesn't have illustrations or examples. The stitches are the same as the once we use (how about that?) This Pinterest page has gorgeous examples -- all that goldwork!!! So much of the thick textural effects are achieved by needleweaving into stitches. This video patiently shows shisha embroidery, step by step. Have to get those mirrors out now. Yummy.
Ok, then there is THIS VIDEO which will need more investigation. Really? It looks so easy...how are the beads being attached? Have to learn this...maybe a trip to India someday...sigh. Love the colors, the textures, and those beautiful beads. Silver and gold. In deliciously large quantities. OMG. Just, OMG!
