Just realized the deadline for Quilt National is in a month. I might toss my pieces in the ring again. I haven’t entered in years. I think though that they are too beaded to be considered art quilts, but we shall see. The quilt of my mom was invited west to be in the “I Remember Mama” exhibit years ago (how did that happen? Still not sure) but after a couple rejections for the main exhibit and getting sick I didn’t bother applying again. I think the new print-based work might be more appropriate to the venue. What’s another entry fee?
My poor Juki machine is still in the hospital. The tech looked at it, estimated $96 for repair, which I authorized. “What is the problem?” I asked. “The feed dogs are stuck.” was the reply. Ummm….yeah...that’s why I brought it in. “Why?” “Don’t know.” Guess why it’s called a estimate. Hoping for her to come home by the end of the week. I bet there is a broken needle tip jammed in there somewhere. As my mother used to say and shake her head, “I’m hard on things.” As Amanda Palmer says “That I'm not the carefullest of girls.” Well said, Amanda. Well lived, Amy. ‘Tis what it ‘tis, I am afraid.
The massive zucchini has yet to get it, but now some diced tomatoes and lentils have appeared on the counter by its side, so things are encouraging. Add a little pasta and BAM, there it is. Healthier than Kellog’s Corn Pops I think. I noticed that Kellog’s took the word “Sugar” out of the name of that fine, decadent, addictive cereal. No surprise there, In a pinch, it makes a satisfying dinner. And I wonder why I am sick! Lol.
Cairo is on my shoulder, watching the letters cross the screen and wishing they were seeds. Hapi sits on his cage saying “Wow!” for no apparent reason. The Quakers are emitting shrill screams of anger for not being released yet (Hapi has yet to figure out how to open their cage) and Kizzy is hanging by a toenail from the roof of his cage saying “What?” like there is a joke being told he doesn’t understand. I love that bird. With a little luck and healing, me and my boy might make it to fireworks tonight,. Gotta make the most of this summer as it isn’t around much longer.
For an art link today, here is a link to the Quilt National show archives, I am not sure my work will ever fit in there, but at the end of the day it isn’t really my choice. It is the journey, the act of making, the act of seeing what is hidden brought out in fabric and those bad, bad beads. Onward!
