Today I am posting an interesting article about the world's oldest work of "art," namely a mark made on the wall by a prehistoric cave inhabitant. The accompanying comics depict a red gallery "sold" sticker on a cave wall which is really funny. Reminds me of visiting London's Royal Academy show and being distracted by the explosions of tiny red dot stickers surrounding the works. A primal symbol that lasts for generations. In this case over 40,000 years. The writer of this article makes some suggestions as to what this old dot might be or could mean. It could be random, maybe an experimental mark made with face paint. Maybe an early attempt at image making. The context is lost, leaving this little red dot to perplex modern humanity. Our brains can manufacture massive philosophical contexts about everything it sees, hears, feels, and does. But did the Neanderthal?
Short post as sitting is difficult today and too many to do's are calling. Including making somethings that are hopefully full of more contextual material than a red dot.
What will you make today?
