And, hopefully I won’t. Didn’t sleep well due to widespread pain. Hard to feel refreshed in the morning when the night was full of frequent and careful re-positioning and movement of body parts to reduce discomfort. The game continues. Today, I want to get my sewing room straightened out and supplies organized for the Next Big Project. Still need to back the Last Big Project, but am too excited to do that just yet. Finishing quilts is good when there is a creative “dry spell.”
In talking with my friend last night, I came up with an idea I am very excited about. I want to use one of the large fabric prints I made with my Art Studio 8 class this year. We can talk about how to develop the composition, then the kids can work on the piece individually until we think it is done. This would mean painting, stamping, embroidering, and maybe beading. So many possibilities and the end result is thoroughly unpredictable. And fun! They will love it, and it will be a real-life artwork. Oooh la la!
For an art link today, once again the gorgeous Through Our Hands Facebook site has provided a link to the work of an amazing and inspirational fiber artist. Jacky Russel creates richly textured, earthy pieces that feel weathered and worn. Eroded. Time-traveled. Beautiful! The architectural themes are just visible enough to reference historical places and times. In looking at her webpage, I see that she’s taken the City and Guilds Machine Embroidery course, which is similar to what I hope to take this year. The piece below makes me think of the massive pile of leather scraps I've accumulated recently. I have used a soldering iron on leather to engrave it, then painted it, and the textures are amazing. Time to try that again, I think. Oh, that inspiring English textile aesthetic...yum. Cheers!
