My boss just hit me on the head with a piece of a Harrison’s pellet. When I looked up to investigate, he gave me a raspberry. I decided to take his picture, and he made my phone’s focus-beep before the phone did. I love the look on his little face in this photo. Welcome to my silly world!
Cousin Fifa will be arriving this morning and the canine Olympic games will begin. Barking competitions, conga line dancing, synchronized peeing, and whining ceremonies for the next seven days. I have headphones, and I am not afraid to use them. God help us all!
Submitted my course pre-approval paperwork for the next educational venture I hope to take. As mentioned before, I am going for a machine embroidery certificate through the Embroidery GUild UK. As soon as I receive approval, I can begin. There are a dozen modules to get into, and it is estimated that it could take a year to complete, at least. Game on! I’m looking at this as rudimentary yet creative training in an area that I’ve dabbled with. Having the structure of a program will ensure that I explore more possibilities than I would on my own. I can see machine embroidered elements working their way into my quilted work more heavily than they do now. Feels like the right step. I’d like to do the hand embroidery module, too, eventually. I want a lot of time to do that one as the processes itself can take so long. Using the machine to draw is so much fun -- I look forward to adding more pictorial elements to the work.
Just a couple weeks until school starts and it is time to get going on room and supply set up. I have so much to do! I popped in yesterday and it was sparkling clean -- how they can restore the mess we make to such a pristine state is beyond belief. It is gorgeous and inspiring. (If only they could work on my house!) I have access to a new closet which is a HUGE asset for sculpture storage and more. I want to set up an embroidery supply area for kids who want to stitch, as well as an extensive recycle/craft area and gluing nook. Another visit to the recycle center might be in order before September, too, I ordered my planbook pages yesterday (Staples’ ARC system rocks) and away we go.
Sadly, my slow mornings will have to be accelerated and my pace picked up. I am determined to find more time to work on my art during this school year. Looking at the massive print pile I brought home from Mass Art, I better get going to make the most of it. A new speaking engagement for next November presented itself yesterday -- it would be great to have a piece from the new series done by then. I have to continue to excel at living in a house that Roseanne Barr or Ed Gein would find unacceptable in order to do it, but “ya gotta do what ya gotta do.”
For an art link today, here is a brilliant piece of parrot fiber by embroidery artist Charlotte Bailey. Yup, from the UK! Maybe I can use paper clips to replace the feathers Hapi continues to pull from his crop area...sigh, Cheers!
