Today I hope to tackle another possible background solution for the Skull. I thought about it last night, and again think there is a good avenue to explore. Am thinking of strip piecing a field, quilting it, possibly machine embroidering text on mesh in there somewhere, and then painting over it white. Maybe printing or painting text with gold and/or copper with bubble wrap. Then beading it, attaching the skull, adding a fuzzy edge and fringe. I want a bare bone-like feeling, yet rich enough to balance the textures in the skull itself. It has to be strongly made and heavy. I really love the work of Linda Kemshall, and while I would not want to create anything that looks like a derivative work, her style inspires me.
I could jump right in now, but the farm needs feeding, the house needs cleaning, and I slept very poorly last night, so know I will be heading back for more sleep today. Then, off to see Carol tonight for Toby da Pug's shot. How is it possible that I love making art so much, have so many ideas, and yet have so little time for it these days, even when working?
The health piece is improving a little each day. Ice packs in the morning seem to do the trick to relieve the left leg issues, and my leg lasts longer each day. Will be getting xray reports today, hopefully, too, and then can figure out what comes next to get this situation under control by back to school time. The thought of setting up my classroom and unpacking boxes with a leg like this is not fun. One good thing is that due to the exceedingly high pain levels I can't really eat, and am losing weight. Talk about a silver lining!
Off for a vacation Monday, one of the last. I hope it is full of art. What will you make today?
