This is the weekend when the ducks used to come back to the brook behind my barn. It was predictable and fun -- the loud quacks would arrive first and then splashing into the water would make me grab some wonder bread and run to give them a special welcome. First there'd be a boy and girl wood duck, and then later on, a few little ones with them. After paddling around the brook for a while and getting some treats, they would retreat further back into the woodwork to keep the babies safe. It was't Spring until my little ducks came home. I haven't seen them in many years now, but still hold out hope that they might decide to come back and stay. At least now I can see the brook! In order to access it, though, I'd have to don hip boots and wade through the comb-over.
Today is a blend of "must do's" and "want do's." Birdie field trip to do their nails, errand running, house cleaning, and art. Would love to put art at the top of the list but just can't today. Sigh. Happy that my Skull piece is coming along well and the embroidery step is almost complete, moving on to bead the heck out of it, next. Am seeing a rich encrustation on this one. Hoping the fingertips cooperate as they still are cracked and the fingers are still sore and stiff. As my Dutch friend says, though, "rest is rust" and giving the paws a good workout by stitching and beading is actually good physical therapy. Will try!
As I type, Kizzy is at my knee, Cairo is sitting alternately on my hand and coffee mug, and Hapi is on the counter next to the keyboard in what looks like a game of "giant step." If I look at him he doesn't move, but when I look away he takes a little step closer. He loves to eat keyboards, so is hoping to have at it. I feel surrounded and it is time to get brekkie rolling for the fids -- or else!! They don't appreciate a slow-going morning like I do...sigh...
What will you make today?
