I came across a really intriguing textile artist today, Sophia Narrett, on Hyperallergic.com. The artwork depicts scenes from an imaginary reality television show with familiar contexts, but a very different story, told in elaborately stitched parts. The textures and colorful imagery are stunning, as are the irregular organic forms that seem to grow like living beings. Really neat stuff. Inspiring for those of us who love to "draw" with fabric and thread -- really great work!
My carrot for cleaning is to be able to indulge in extended art time this summer...textile work takes a long, long time to create, and it is one of summer's luxuries. I look forward to it as much as most people await a great trip for vacation, because in a way, it sort of is the same thing.
What will you make today?
