I have a *thing* about dentist offices. The smell alone makes my blood pressure rise. I was so happy to have small stitched pieces to work on to keep my hands busy. Remember the study about how stitching lowers stress hormones in the bloodstream? I was counting on it! After attempting to stitch without glasses, I was forced to admit it was not a good idea. I just couldn't see. As the office policy requires that the patient's ride waits in the office during the procedure and can not leave, I was stuck. On a whim, I asked at the desk if they might have a pair that someone accidentally left and they did! The nice receptionist laughed, cleaned them up, and they saved the day. Thankfully!
I have a bag of small quilted collage squares cut from less than successful pieces that will hopefully become simple pins some day. Maybe earrings, too. It is great to have a little portable stitching handy that I can dig into when there is unexpected time. It doesn't take too long to embellish each one with thread, with beads being added later, and a simple edge finish. Good thing they are ready -- off to the tire place after school to get my flat fixed...while I wait. I put a spare pair of readers in the bag with the stitching so at least this never happens again. As for the tire issue, my rims bear witness to twelve years of being not the most carefullest of drivers and are starting to resemble abstract sculpture. Good thing I got the warranty on the tires when I bought them last year...oy vey!
Onward to "Science Expo Day" -- a day of creative engineering based problem solving. A fun day for kids, if not the adults. Hoping the planet spins in the right direction!
