As soon as I feel better. How often do I say that? Man it is getting old! Still, I can’t give up.
One funny anecdote to share from yesterday that made me feel really happy: As I was going over the class expectations for a group of 7th grade students, many of which I taught last year, I purposely tried to incorporate humor as there is nothing more boring than hearing all the rules from every teacher during the first few days of class. I put on a really mean face and said “This year I am going to be a big fat meanie -- you can’t go back to your locker to get forgotten items and you have to be on time.” Blah blah blah. The kids were looking at each other suppressing laughter until one kiddo lost it, causing a chain reaction around the room. “What is it?” I asked. “Ms. Ropple, you can never be mean, You just can’t!” at which point a bunch more joined in to laugh. It was a funny, sweet moment that reassured me that I am on the right track with my classes. I’m sure not all kids agree, but it is nice to get feedback from the source sometimes!
My neighbor is still in the hospital, her loyal pets are still doing their best at home alone. C’mon, Mrs. C!
For an art link today, here is a piece by the fabulous Ruth McDowell. She’s been doing animal pieces lately and I particularly love her fabric choices and backgrounds. Meet Stanley! Cheers.
