RA flare is subsiding, little bit by little bit. Thankfully. Keeping moving despite wanting to curl up in a ball and vegetate. Hurts to move, but hurts more to not move, including mentally. Looking forward to a day of warmer temps and fun art going on in the classroom. Art therapy, indeed!
Today's link is to a great article on the recent brain research around creativity that focused on improvisational jazz musicians. Just how were they able to do it? The part of the brain that reflects self-expression is used, while the "self-monitoring" part, that marvelous inner critic, is not. Cut off. Quieted. Amazing to have science show us what art teachers know already. Maybe this explains why students with ADHD (and poor self-monitoring abilities) are so creative? Finally? I love how brain science is dovetailing with art education these days -- most definitely reinforces the importance of giving kids time to breathe and create in their school day.
What will you make today?
