Two years ago the snow plow guy accidentally wiped it out. As it was winter, and the dogs needed to be contained, I went to the barn and found an old black metal grid and put it in place of the wooden section using bungee cords. Talk about ugly. For the past two years, yes, TWO YEARS, every time I wanted to open the gate that crossed the driveway I had to un-bungee the cords or climb over. A total pain and annoyance that I just learned to live with as I focused my attention on other things.
Sometimes tasks that need to get done only need attention, not a significant amount of time. Yesterday I was at Lowe's at 9 a.m. buying materials to make a new gate. By last night, it was done. It was not difficult, just took a little focused time and effort. So many things in life are like that -- they linger on the periphery waiting to get done, with the assumption that they will be too hard or take to long to do. But they don't. Attention is like a laser beam -- one pointed at something, it is a powerful tool. The tasks themselves don't take long to do, or much concerted effort -- it is paying attention to them and setting time aside to get them done that does.
So, while I didn't get to much art yesterday, the basic gate panel is finished. Boom. Done. Of course, my legs and back are complaining a lot today, so maybe I might focus that laser beam attention on finishing up the small pieces that are lingering. If I give them my full attention, they will get done. Cheers!
What will you make today?
