The overgrown rhododendron bush filling one of my kitchen windows is filled with little birds. The negative spaces have little silhouettes of tiny happy feathered critters, bouncing on the branches and disappearing into the leaves. So cute. The original Twitter. The joke about the key to selling art on Etsy is to "put a bird on it" -- my window looks just like the stereotypical shadow.
I am trying to focus on the positive sights of nature after having a week of horrendous interactions with creatures of the Great Outdoors invading my Peaceful Indoors. No one could understand the mental torment of having this kind of occurrence without experiencing it first hand. I know I couldn't have imagined it. Creatures that live outdoors gaining entry to the homestead and interfering. Destroying. Creeping. Threatening. Dying. Like a horror movie. I feel truly traumatized.
I am glad to have the nice weather to get out there and assess what needs to be done, and to start doing it. Everything else is on hold until I can feel sure that things are secure in my house. Tackling home repairs requires a form of creativity, too, different from my textile ambitions. Instead I will be using wood, metal, and concrete to ensure there are no vulnerable places in my very old and porous home. Here's to hoping the back cooperates!
What will you make today?
