Happy to have completed a small piece this week (almost.) Excited about completing the series and seeing what happens with each one. I really like series work as it lets me explore many possibilities and take more chances with ideas. Subtle nuances and design differences show up within each piece, providing variety and challenge. Having a composition in place to start with provides a palatable structure to work on.
If I had my druthers, I’d start working on quilting the rest of them today. And do nothing else. But then I’d have to go to school naked due to a lack of clean clothes. My pugs would make the house and floors even more un-navigable with their mess. The fridge would explode as it is in need of a good clean out. And...and...and...sigh. Not to mention there are several hours of school work to do today to close the quarter correctly with our new grading system. I hope by the time I retire and can be a full time artist I still have ideas and interest! Beading last night was truly wonderful and relaxing. Love me my beads! I JUST WANT TO DO MORE ARTWORK FOR A WHILE and say “forgettabout it” to everything else.
Spent yesterday afternoon with Tim going to the Extras for Creative Reuse place in its new Peabody location. Packed up a huge amount of bits and bobs for the classroom -- the kids will be psyched! Then we went to neighboring antique shops and browsed ephemera and old stuff. Very fun and inspiring. Found a small Turkish copper pot for $1, and some things for kids to draw in the classroom. I took some photos of things that might make their way into my art, too...we shall see! We then grabbed a late lunch/early dinner at the British Beer Company. Yum!
The best part of yesterday was that my pain levels were manageable for the first time in AGES. I seriously didn’t have the constant, nagging call for attention coming from my feet and legs. The pain was there, but not loudly enough to keep me in a state of constant distraction. Amazing! That alone makes this weekend a good one. Praying it lasts.
As I sit here nursing a coffee that isn’t waking me up, I am tempted to go back to sleep for a while. Hmmm...but the birds are calling for breakfast, the sky is getting a bit lighter (c’mon, it is almost 7 am!) Tilly is in his man pen and the pugs are crashed on their bedding, snoring away. I could pull it off. Maybe I’ll pull a bad parenting trick and put the tv on and sneak back for an hour or so. While the new medication is helping with pain, it does make me feel a bit sleepy. Might just give in for a bit. THEN laundry, floors, school work, bill paying, and maybe art will be more appealing. Not!
