The bright side is that the nearby cloth I grabbed to clean up the spilled ink was a beautiful piece of white cotton. I am using it to clean the entire mess and it will be a gorgeous piece of black and white fabric when I am done! Voila! An instant example of unplanned surface design.
I have ideas in my head starting to percolate for a new large piece. Very different than things I've done before. Centered around a more painterly surface. Some collaged imagery, but also more found-object type stuff. And text. I haven't "Gone deep" on an idea in some time, so it feels good to be percolating imagery in the mental coffee pot again. Today is a simple post of two artists that I've been drawn to over the years whose art is floating around in the coffee pot, too. Jasper Johns and David Salle. Both draw heavily on a paper-collage look, with the immediacy of graffiti imagery. Both create well crafted, beautiful works, though. I could do without the hyper sexual imagery of Salle, but it is very representative of today's society. Life is a messy, energetic, collage full of conflict. Maybe that's where my art is heading too!
What will you make today?
