I've read about situations where new friends are introduced to pet parrots and the birds go crazy -- dive bombing, biting, lunging, screaming, etc. A new friend has been spending time in their company and I am happy to report this isn't the case, here. Hapi in particular has developed a little crush on my friend, giving him a name (a whistle that my friend did when he first met him) and repeating every little whistle he learns from him. Repeatedly. Hap seems fascinated at this new person who speaks bird. Cairo, too, is intrigued by the new "paper towel through the cage bars" game my friend has played with him. Cai isn't a super playful bird -- his focus in life is to find food and throw containers to the floor while looking. Watching his little foot grab a piece of paper towel and play gentle tug-o-war was an unexpected riot. Kizzy is still a little leery, but to be honest, my friend is rightfully a little leery of him due to the size of That Beak. He is treated to a little game using a fluffy rope end that usually hangs listless in his cage. This is the first time any of my friends has tried to interact with my kids, and I am so happy to see the birds seem to like it. Of course, my friend hasn't been christened with bird poop yet, but has encountered other unpleasantries in my home and think should it happen, he will survive.
As I plan for having surgery in a few weeks, I have to decide if I board the birds or keep them home with me. My gut says to keep them home, as their company is worth more than the potential difficulties. Healing is easier when the environment is a happy one, and these birds add so much joy and love to my day, I think I am going to need it. That and a good stitching project to keep my hands and mind occupied. Both are important and will get me back on track in no time. Cheers!
What will you make today?
