Can't believe it has been fifteen years today that my mom passed away. Fifteen years! Feels like yesterday when I go back there into the memory banks. So I try not to, and instead hope she is happy wherever she is, surrounded by her beloved pups and family members that she never really got to know in this world. Cheers, mom.
I still use mom's tattered mail basket for my mail, but this has been put on hold for a bit as birds are building a nest in it. They abandoned it for a few days but happily, they returned yesterday and got quite a lot done. I put a note on it for the mailman to not put mail in there for a while and will donate some thread snippets and hair from my hairbrush. Can't wait to see babies!!
Today's link is to artist Rosalind Wyatt who tells stories on garments relating to history. Fascinating stuff. Her calligraphic stitching is light and breezy, like fine pen work, but the content is not. It is hard to read, but like magical text on medieval Islamic garments, it is the overall effect that works. Her 2014 project is called "Stitch Lives of London" and its evolution is described on her website. Another review of her work can be found here.
Got pre-approval last night for my certificate course with the Embroidery Guild UK -- so inspired on that one! Hoping that my recent sleep-a-thon can be lifted with the energy provided by needles and thread. Here's to hoping!
