On the bright side, I discovered a delicious new beer last night that surprised me! I am a self-described beer snob, which is why I rarely have beer in the house (bottled beer? really?) and I would rather have water than a domestically mass-brewed lite beer. I like robust dark beers -- Guinness, Smithwicks, and Negra Modello are the fallbacks if I can't try a new dark brew at a restaurant. I love the taste of beer. If it is too light and thin, it just isn't worth it for me to drink. Besides, Guinness is good for you! My amazing neighbor lived well into her nineties and had a Guinness every night before bed, even when it had to be smuggled into her nursing home.
All this being said, I do get bored with having the same beer all the time. Blueberry beer is fun and summery, but now it has a rival. Last night I had Sea Dog Sunfish -- it was great! It tastes rich in fruity flavors and is sure to be an excellent choice when the temps start going up. It has a strong peach and grapefruit flavor, challenging my brain to recognize that it was even beer. It is not as strong in alcohol as other darks that have been available lately, which is nice, and isn't as heavy on the stomach, either. I think it needs a fruit garnish and will try that next time. A sure sign that good weather is ahead is when the taps are changed to summer brews. Salud!
Now, back to New England weather with snow expected today. Sigh. !!
What will you make today?
