A second link that looks nothing short of brilliant is one to a massive image database of European "lantern slides" -- visual resources presenters used to teach from in the 18th and 19th centuries. Omg. There is a photo of a pug that looks suspiciously like the Tobster. Maybe he is of Good Hearty European Stock after all. The images are from all over Europe and range from historical views to bizarre combinations of people, animals, science, and things. I could see these in my work...hmmmm.....again, looking at how we look at the world and how that gives it meaning. Awesome collection that I can't wait to dig into.
