On the same brain function train of thought, I woke up at 4 am wondering where my dongle is. Now, before you think icky thoughts, a dongle is a little usb plug that must be installed in order to get certain pieces of software to work. This prevents people from downloading and using the software illegally. The program I have for my PFAFF machine that digitizes stitching for the sewing machine has a dongle. I have taken care of my dongle for nearly ten years without misplacing it. ALWAYS knowing where it is. Even in the chaos of my home, I could locate it in a flash.
So at 4am it was a shock that I hadn’t a clue where I last saw it. OMG the terror. Upon waking and absent mindedly getting Hapi to his brekkie perch, I began gimping around looking in the usual places with no result. It could be anywhere. I will look in the sewing room before leaving, but sadly, I haven’t a clue. It is tiny and lost in the sea of mess in my kitchen, I think. The Junk Drawer. Or in the pocket of a bag. Or or or...uh oh. I was thinking about it as bringing in digitized sketching would be cool as part of this class, too…Deep breath, brain, have some coffee, all will become clear as it is needed. Wherever it is, I know I never tossed it out and it is in a Very Safe Place. Oh, the aging, distracted brain! My dad used to say “You’d lose your head if it wasn’t tied on…” True Poppa, but can you come from the Great Beyond and help me find my dongle today?
Here’s a link to the video we watched, called Post Analog Painting at the Hole. There was an exhibit at the Hole gallery recently of contemporary artists in NYC whose work explores the relationship between analog and digital -- creating abstract digital doodles and painting them with stunning craftsmanship, or exploring the process of digitizing and printing images to make art. Definitely food for thought! Digital stitching needs to be part of this. Gotta go find my dongle.
