Like any true Virgo that likes to rearrange deck chairs on the Titanic, I can organize small parts of my life really well while often living in abject chaos. A classic example is my large embroidery floss collection. I've had it pretty well sorted in a carrier designated for such a purpose, but after letting my 7th graders at it last spring, it has never been the same. After careful Pinterest study I've adopted a new method: clothespins. Wrapping floss around a clothespin is brilliant. Easy to store, doesn't tangle. Yes, I will need to wrap many, many clothespins. Thankfully, my friend Tim found it to be a highly engaging activity last night and we did fifty of them. He insisted on refining the process to utilize a pencil as a spindle, considering speed and ergonomic factors, and happily wound the colorful thread on clothespins, experiencing stitcher's delight when the little skein opened up easily without tangling. Who knew thread wrapping could be so romantic! Yes, we joked about that. Still it feels good to have all my pretty colors so organized. Now, for the rest of my life...sigh.
Yesterday the Kemshall's posted a link to their publication's Facebook page. "Through Our Hands" is dedicated to textile art of the highest caliber. If you haven't joined it and love textiles, it is certainly one to watch! I wonder how they store their threads...hmmm....
Happy Sunday!
