At Create Artisan Studio we are finishing up the Love Your Sketchbook class. It is so fun to see people jump into their blank, scary sketchbooks and develop beautiful pages of portraits, abstract doodles, and more. The next class will be Altered Books, which will continue exploring the creative possibilities of the book format. So looking forward to seeing what these creative adults do!
I came across a blog last night that features a sketchbook page from artist Edward Lear who is known for his intricate paintings of parrots. Of course, parrots! Anyway, the beauty of this page is the evidence of process. The main image is surrounded by experimental brushwork made to ensure the color was "just right." The actual paintings are so precise one can only imagine the hours that went into creating them, and seeing the patches of mixed colors speaks to that careful process. Makes me want to delve into the pages of my book with renewed enthusiasm.
What will you make today?
