Last night I saw Susan Carlson's blog posted on Facebook (I believe Art Quilts 101 page?) Her work is AMAZING and has been an inspiration forever. I haven't seen her website or work in a couple years, though, and was thrilled to see this. I love how she uses color. All of it. Her images are based mostly on value changes, but with electric color! The Facebook post showed a parakeet that immediately grabbed my eye and then I found it was her quilt. Go Susan! Of all the textile artists I've had the good fortune of seeing, Susan has taught me the most when it comes to translating images into fabric collage. She is the master. So glad to have (re)found her blog to see all the amazing things she's been up to since I last found it.
I read her blog to see that her 20 foot long crocodile quilt (AMAZING) went to the Wisconsin exhibit based on animals that I was invited to participate in, but missed the invite as it went through my website rather than my email. I could kick myself, and spent a while last night doing just that as I realized what a special exhibit it would have been to be part of, and I blew it. I really should be getting work out there into the Art World again, if I can, and missing this show was as good an excuse as any to get annoyed with myself and my limitations. I hate being human sometimes. Rationally I can acknowledge that I can't do everything, but my ego brain likes to use it as evidence that this whole art journey-thang is a waste of time. This show was a goodie. Sigh. Moving on. Incentive to focus more on my artwork, I guess.
So, off to the races. Full day ahead, ending the day with three dogs in the car to see the great Dr. Carol Macomber for annual visits and vaccines. Then the cats, then the birds. And I wonder why I can't get art done these days! Still, I value the living over the material, and always will. But still, a little more material production would be great, now that my back is better. C'mon, RA, join the "got better" club so I can put energy into art instead of dealing with you. Hey immune system, got the memo? Thanks.
Onward! Happy Monday.
